Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a non-invasive comfort measure for use during labour (best used from early labour and increasing intensity as labour advances). It has no side effects for the labouring parent or their baby.

The TENS unit is a compact, lightweight, battery-powered device with two pairs of self-adhesive electrode pads that are placed on the skin close to the spine. The TENS device is simple and easy to use with large buttons, a clear bright backlight LCD that allows the display to be read more easily in low light or dark conditions, and an integrated booster switch.

The Obi TENS is simple and versatile. Featuring two easy to use pre-set modes, it’s ideal for use during and between contractions. The Obi TENS is one of the most effective and portable obstetric TENS machines available.

Burst Mode: The Obi TENS burst mode operates by default to use between contractions. You’ll feel a pulsing, tingling sensation come and go with each pulse. More importantly, burst mode stimulates your endorphins and enkephalins (and are very important for pain-relief).

Boost Mode: To use during contractions, the Obi TENS allows you to press the boost button to receive an extra surge of power to combat discomfort during contractions. Simply press up or down to control the intensity of the pulses in either mode.
