NeuroTrac TENS Machine

Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) is a non-invasive comfort measure for use during labour (best used from early labour and increasing intensity as labour advances). It has no side effects for the labouring parent or their baby.

The TENS unit is a compact, lightweight, battery-powered device with two pairs of self-adhesive electrode pads that are placed on the skin close to the spine. The TENS device is simple and easy to use with large buttons, a clear bright backlight LCD that allows the display to be read more easily in low light or dark conditions, and a remote booster switch.

The stimulation intensity is adjusted until a mild tingling sensation is felt. The NeuroTrac™ Obstetric TENS unit has a hand-held push button control to change the stimulation mode from LOW frequency burst to HIGH frequency stimulation. The low frequency is used during rest periods (between contractions). As soon as labour contraction is felt strongly the mode is changed to high frequency stimulation, once the contractions have subsided the mode is reverted back to low frequency burst mode stimulation.
